The world of “Off the Record” interpreted by 5 emerging artists

In recent years, Kanagawa Prefectural Gallery has been holding exhibitions with young and active artists making effective use of the large space available at our gallery, such as Kneading by Taro Izumi (2010), Everyday Life / Hidden Reasons (2011), Whirl by Hiraki Sawa, and many others. The current exhibition is the third in a series of group exhibitions "Everyday Life / ", entitled Everyday Life / Off the Record. This year, the exhibition will take place at the Middle Studio in Kanagawa Arts Theatre (KAAT), which is basically a space for body expressions. This is our first time to realize an exhibition not in "white cube" but in "black box". “Off the record” is a term used in the media and means "not to keep memory of something". Using the methods and materials they are best at, the 5 artists (Shinya Aota, Yukako Ando, Toshiyuki Kajioka, Masaharu Sato, Lyota Yagi), active in and outside Japan, interpreted this term and devised everyday records and memories that are to be kept off the record in their artworks. Why don’t we uncover these hidden things in the exhibition space?
